HAPPY 2102 th. BIRTHDAY TO MARC ANTONY MEMBER OF THE 2ND. TRIUMVIRATE *

* The Triumvirate consisted of Antony, Marcus Lepidus and Caesar’s great nephew and adopted son, Octavian. The thee shared ruling the Roman Republic after the death of Julius Caesar.
Antony was a Roman politician and general who played a critical role in the transformation of the Roman Republic from an oligarchy into the autocratic Roman Empire. He was a supporter of Julius Caesar. The Triumvirs defeated Caesar’s murderers.
Antony had 5 “spouses,” including the Egyptian Queen Cleopatra. He had 8 childern. Cleopatra was mother of three of his children.
Eventually the Triumvirate split and battled with each other. Octaviau got the Roman Senate to declare war on Cleopatra, accusing Antony as a traitor. Octavian defeated Antony in the Battle of Actium. Antony and Cleopatra fled to Egypt where they both committed suicide.
