SIR WINSTON CHURCHILL WAS A VERY FAMOUS MAN FOR MANY REASONS

(Note to Homeschool – And other – Moms:  There are endless teaching opportunities to be had in this post.  What  is the Job of Prime Minister?   What was WWII?   What were the Big 5   What is Parliament?    What great things did Churchill accomplish?, etc)

A British Politician,  Army Officer, a writer, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from 1940 – 45 and again 1951 – 55.  As Prime Minister, he led Great Britain to victory in World War II.   Ideologically he was an economic liberal and British Imperialist, he was a member of the Liberal Party 1904 -24 before joining the  Conservative Party, which he led from 1940 – 55.  He represented five different constituencies (Districts)  during his career as a Member of Parliament.

During World War II he was one of the so called “Big 5 ” countries’ leaders (Roosevelt, Churchill, De Gaulle, Chiang  Kai-Shek, Stalin)

Sir Winston was a gifted and captivating orator. He wrote numerous books.

It seems Churchill was a true champion of

                  good English grammar.

Here is one quote by Sir Winston on a certain grammar rule:

           “FROM NOW ON, ENDING

               A SENTENCE WITH

      A PREPOSITION IS SOMETHING

UP WITH WHICH I WILL NOT PUT”
